Important Update: Changes to Solar PV Grant Value

Changes to Solar PV Grant Value Starting 1st January 2025

The Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Scheme offers homeowners a valuable opportunity to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint by installing solar panels. This grant, administered under the Microgeneration Support Scheme by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), is funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. However, it’s important to act promptly, as the maximum grant amount is set to decrease from €2,100 to €1,800 from 1st January 2025.

This change underscores the importance of completing your application as soon as possible to secure the higher grant value before the new year.

Understanding the Solar PV Grant

The Solar PV Grant is designed to support homeowners in adopting renewable energy solutions by helping cover the cost of installing solar panels. The application process includes specific requirements and timelines that must be met to qualify for funding.

To be eligible for the grant, homeowners must ensure they have completed the application process and received approval before commencing any work. Once grant approval is issued, you will have an eight-month window to complete the installation and submit a Declaration of Works to SEAI. Missing this deadline will result in the grant expiring and the application being declined.

It’s also crucial to understand that draft applications are not considered complete. Only a Letter of Offer from SEAI confirms the amount of funding for which you are eligible. If this letter has not been issued, your grant is not yet secured.

Key Considerations for Applications

When you submit your application, the grant amount is fixed based on the rates in place at the time your Letter of Offer is issued. This rate remains valid for the eight-month approval period. If you need to change your installation company after submitting your application, the original application will be cancelled, and a new one must be created. Be aware that the new application will be subject to the grant rates effective at that time.

With the impending reduction in grant value, applications completed and approved after 1st January 2025 will only qualify for the lower maximum amount of €1,800. To ensure eligibility for the current higher rate of €2,100, you must complete your application and receive your Letter of Offer before this deadline.

Eligibility for the Solar PV Grant

This grant is available to:

  • All homeowners, including private landlords.
  • Homes built and occupied before 31st December 2020.
  • Properties with no previous funding under the Solar PV Scheme at the associated Meter Point Registration Number (MPRN).

Take Action Now

If you’re considering installing solar PV panels, now is the time to act. By submitting your application and securing approval before the end of 2024, you can benefit from the higher grant value of €2,100.
